They marched down the hall. Some kindergartners were making music with their instruments from home. They had homemade drums, guitars, and maracas.
Some kindergartners helped each other and were part of a big long red dragon. The body was made of a red plastic table cloth and sticks for the children to hold. The head of the dragon was white and made of cardboard. There were pom-poms and ribbons on the head too. One kindergarten student was in the head to make his mouth move up and down. After the dragon there were more kids with instruments. We had so much fun watching the kindergarteners. Happy Chinese New Year! Today we were talking about Eric Carle with our friends from Canada (Mrs. Sekhon's class). We talked about our favorite books by this author. Our class read 13 Eric Carle books during the Global Read Aloud. Some of our favorites were Mr. Seahorse, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Mixed Up Chameleon, Slowly Slowly Slowly said the Sloth and many others.
Eric Carle writes his own books and draws his own pictures. We noticed he used different materials in his books. He made texture on his pictures. He cuts out his pictures and glues them on a paper. His pictures are detailed and very colorful. You won't believe what happened last week. The Columbus Zoo brought animals to our school. First we saw a penguin. It was a surprise to find out it lived in warm weather not cold. A bear cat came to our school too. It was only four weeks old. We were the first school to get to see the bear cat. The sloth came to our school. It hung upside down. The sloth only goes to the bathroom once a week. Finally we saw an Amir leopard. There are less thirty left in the world. Today was the walk-a-thon. It was raining so we went to the gym. We walked a lot of laps. Some of us walked fast so we could get more laps. We walked behind a white curtain. We got sweaty. At the end we got our picture taken. We counted our laps. Our class walked 398 laps all together! We raised a lot of money for our school. Pete the Cat has the blue cat blues. Grumpy Toad gave him the magic glasses. The magic glasses helped him feel like he was in a whole new world. Pete gave the glasses to everyone. You won't believe what happens next.
We think that this Pete the Cat book is rockin'. We loved this Pete the Cat. This week was our first walking Wednesday. We walked to school with our friends and family. All the people together are called a walking school bus. There were stops along the way. We waited on each other. Some of us had our picture taken. We wrote our name on a piece of paper if we walked. We got goodie bags when we reached the blue line. We are excited about the next one. We had a Chalk-A-Bration! Tasty treats.
Sugar treats. Spicy treats. Yummy treats. Ice cream, Chocolate, Pudding, Cake. Treats, treats. We love treats. Oh no! I have a belly ache! On Wednesday we went to the library to meet our 5th grade reading buddies. Some of us had one partner. Some of us had two partners. Our teacher had us bring our favorite books from our classroom. Our fifth grade buddies brought a book we might be interested in. We both brought books we like. Some of our buddies brought funny books. Some of our buddies brought scary books. Some of our buddies brought sad books. Some of our fifth grade buddies brought vacation books. We talked about what we liked about the books. We like our buddies. We love to read with our fifth grade buddies. |
